This section is dedicated to Ableton and to all of their products. Ableton is the maker of Live, Push and Link. With these products, their community of users creates amazing things. The company is based in Berlin and it’s run by its founders. Many of them are musicians, producers and DJs. But why are we choosing Ableton between any other DAW? The answer is simple: while the vast majority can be hooked up to any software capable of receiving MIDI, an increasing number of controllers and touchscreen apps designed to work specifically with one DAW in particular are making it to market. That DAW is, of course, Ableton Live. When in the throws of music production creativity, one hardly has time to stop and MIDI map your controller to each synth – especially when quickly previewing instruments and tweaking their parameters. There’s plenty of MIDI controllers for Ableton that have Instant Mappings, but if you find out that yours is not one of them, don’t worry. There are so many custom Ableton Live controller scripts, and that’s because they are very easy to edit and create yourself! These natively-supported control surfaces will automatically adjust Live’s built-in devices and will reassign themselves when you select a new device. Ableton revolutionized the DAW scene with their clip launcher, called Session View, which was an extra feature compared to other DAWs which only had linear timelines (and still do). Ableton Live’s Session View is designed to create a spontaneous environment that encourages performance and improvisation. The abundance of MIDI controllers for Ableton is explained by the fact that the company gave manufacturers and developers easy access to the software tools required to build such layouts, facilitating its own sub-category of the MIDI controller market.
