Manage the fader and the pitch of a turntable with only one hand. This simple yet efficient DJ Woody’s Pitch Shifter features a portable fader and the new shifter, providing a brilliant alternative to the Fretless fader.
Originally designed by John Beez 7 years ago, this idea set the scratch world on fire. Since then there have been plenty of modders picking up John Beez’s original and having a go themselves. Woody’s approach is a really simple take on the idea. While others have been turning mixers into a huge MIDI pitch fader, Woody has plonked a portable Raiden fader onto the custom DJ Woody’s Pitch Shifter, made from acrylic with a felt underside to allow smooth horizontal movement, adding a new dimension to the world of scracthing. This knob have been uniquely designed and fits Vestax, Technics, Stanton, Reloop and most Super OEM turntables. If you are not sure about wheter it will fit or not, you can check is by trying a standard Vestax crossfader cap on your pitch fader. If that fits then so does the DJ Woody’s Pitch Shifter. To use it you only have to remove the knob of the turntable’s fader and replace it with the pitch shifter. Then, on top of it, you have to put a portable fader, such as a Raiden or a Frisk. We prefer the Raiden because of its price and quality, which is, for us, way superior that the Frisk. The Raiden fader is, for us, a very valuable gadget, even if doesn’t feature the technology and life span of more advanced faders used in full size mixers. With that being said, we can assure you that using the DJ Woody Pitch Shifter will be fun and easy to learn, if you’re already into scratching.
While not the most elegant or stable of solutions, it can for an extremely wallet friendly price let to dabble in the world of fretless faders and musical note play to see if you really do want to take it further. Given the zero availability of commercial fretless fader projects until John Beez releases details, Woody’s Pitch Shifter really is your only option right now.
